RealTime Labs
Who Are We?
Founded in 2005 by Dr. Dennis Hooper and Dr. Vincent Bolton, RealTime Laboratories was created with the goal of being a Champion for the Undiagnosed. Fueled by their intellectual curiosity, grounded in their desire to help patients, and taking advantage of their extensive research backgrounds, the doctors at RTL looked beyond simple explanations.
They embarked on a search for answers to their patients’ problems. Through extensive research and detective-style problem solving, they traced many of their patients’ health issues back to an often-overlooked culprit: mold exposure!
Mycotoxin poisoning is largely overlooked because of its myriad of symptoms that fall under the category of secondary diseases or illnesses. Most doctors were doing their best to treat the symptoms and secondary illnesses but were not able to uncover the root of the problem. That is where RTL comes in.
Our Vision and Mission
RealTime Laboratories, Inc. was founded with the desire to improve the quality of life around the world, one innovative test at a time. Our vision is to be the most credible and passionate leader in cutting edge laboratory services. We strive to provide the most insightful answers to our patients and customers to help better address the health episodes they face.
By offering the most accurate and timely ancillary services to detect emerging pathogens, foundationally based on science and medical leadership, we break down barriers to personal health management and allow people to live better!
What We Do at RealTime Labs
RealTime Lab’s mycotoxin urine test panel is the most comprehensive available, testing for the presence of sixteen of the most common and toxic mycotoxins produced by indoor mold contaminants. RealTime Lab is one of the only labs in the U.S. that tests for Macrocyclic Trichothecenes which can be caused by Stachybotrys Chartarum, aka, ‘black mold.’
RealTime also offers an environmental mold and mycotoxin assessment, or EMMA, to test your living or work environment for the presence and abundance of the ten most common and toxigenic molds that coincide with the sixteen mycotoxins also being tested for. We offer discounted follow up tests for both the mycotoxin urine and the EMMA.
Along with our testing services, we offer complimentary physician consultations with our medical consultant to help explain patient results.
If you did not go through a physician and ordered a test directly off our website, we offer complimentary consultations with our Patient Navigator to help you understand your results. If you are interested in finding a physician or inspector in your area to help with treatment or remediation, please visit our Find a Provider page or our Find an Environmental Inspector page.
Our Founders
Dr. Hooper and Dr. Bolton founded RealTime Laboratories in 2005 after extensive research and studies into the harmful effects of mycotoxin poisoning on the human body. However, their history goes back much further than that.
The doctors met each other on their first day of medical school at the University of Nevada Medical School in Reno. Because they were interested in the same areas of research, they often collaborated on projects in school, focusing primarily on infectious diseases. They developed a special interest in fungal infections in patients and wanted to better understand how mold contamination affected the body.
Dr. Hooper graduated from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, in 1971, with a B.S. degree, the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1973, with an M.S. degree in Microbiology, and from the University of California, Davis, in 1982, with a Ph.D. in Microbiology. He also received his M.D. degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1983. Dr. Hooper has completed an internship in Flexible Medicine (1984) and a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (1988) from the United States Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA. He became board certified in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Hooper retired as a Navy Captain (0-6) in 2001. During his tenure in the Navy, Dr. Hooper was involved in research, clinical immunology, pathology, microbiology, and related consulting work. He served as chairman of Pathology at Naval Hospital San Diego for 6 years and held the positions of Ancillary Service Director, Naval Hospital, San Diego as well as Specialty Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General.
Dr. Bolton was awarded a Naval scholarship his first year of medical school. After graduating from medical school, he started his residency training in the Navy at Balboa Medical Center in San Diego for Obstetrics and Gynecology. After one year of training, he was stationed on the USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) out of San Diego where he served as the senior medical officer of the ship. After his tour on the Belleau Wood, he returned to Balboa and entered a three-year residency training program in anesthesiology, where upon completion of his program, he became board certified in Anesthesiology. He then transferred to the Naval hospital at Newport Rhode Island, during which he was temporarily assigned to the USS Forrestal (CV-59) as the only staff anesthesiologist. Once he was discharged from the Navy, he moved to Kennebunkport, Maine where he started an anesthesiology practice. He continued working at his practice during the founding of RTL.
What It Means to Be
Accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
For more than 50 years, the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program has been the champion of laboratory excellence, exceeding the requirements of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as those of other national and state regulatory agencies.
High-complexity disciplines (such as those performed in RealTime Laboratories) benefit from a specialized inspection by a peer who has expertise in the field. Only the CAP includes a specialty inspector for high-complexity Disciplines.
RealTime Laboratories holds numerous certifications as an accredited clinical laboratory including California, Maryland and Pennsylvania licenses.
