Frequently Asked Questions
The Mycotoxin Panel tests 16 mycotoxins, including 9 macrocyclic trichothecenes — toxic compounds produced by certain molds. These toxins have been linked to kidney toxicity, immune system suppression, neurotoxicity, depression, and cancer. It is priced at $399 when purchased separately.
Our Mycotoxin Panel reports results in parts per billion (ppb), which measures the actual concentration of mycotoxins present in your urine sample.
Some laboratories adjust (or "normalize") mycotoxin results based on urine creatinine levels. While this approach is intended to account for how diluted or concentrated a urine sample is, creatinine levels can vary significantly from person to person. Factors such as age, muscle mass, hydration status, kidney function, and certain health conditions can all affect creatinine levels.
Because of this natural variability, normalizing mycotoxin results to creatinine may mask elevated toxin levels or make results more difficult to interpret. Reporting results directly in ppb provides a straightforward measurement of the mycotoxins detected in the sample, allowing clinicians to interpret results without the potential variability introduced by creatinine normalization.
This approach along with a first morning void to avoid dilution helps provide clear, consistent results that can be interpreted alongside a patient's clinical history, symptoms, and other laboratory findings with greater accuracy.
There are no age restrictions on RealTime Labs Urinary Mycotoxin Testing.

No. Mycotoxins testing has been tested and validated for samples collected at any point in time regardless of the urination schedule.
We ask for a first morning void for two reasons:
- It prevents the possibility of an overly diluted sample. If you cannot go 6-8 hours without urination, simply avoid drinking excess amounts of liquid prior to collecting your sample.
- When collecting as part of a combination profile with other toxins or Organic Acids Testing, a first morning void is required, so it is simpler to perform a single collection.
The collection kit comes with 3 liquid urine transfer tubes. For a single Mycotoxin Panel, only 1 tube is required. Additional tubes are to be utilized only if you are doing a combination testing panel.
Laboratory developed testing, such as that performed by RealTime Labs, is overseen by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which administers the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). All U.S laboratories that test human specimens for health purposes must go through a rigorous accreditation process to meet quality standards, validation processes, and personnel standards.
RealTime Lab is CLIA Certified and CAP (College of American Pathologist) Accredited.
When ordered by a licensed physician, our 16 Mycotoxin Panel may be covered by Medicare and certain insurance providers, depending on the patient's plan, diagnosis, and coverage criteria. Because coverage varies by insurer and policy, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm eligibility and benefits before testing.
Additionally, all our human testing panels may be eligible for reimbursement through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). Coverage and reimbursement requirements can vary by plan, so we encourage you to check with your FSA/HSA administrator for specific details.
